Grand Theft Auto 6 Price Confirmed: Standard Edition Costs $79.99, Ultimate Edition Hits $99.99
After more than a year without a major update, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed how much Grand Theft Auto 6 will cost. The long-awaited sequel will launch in two versions: a Standard Edition priced at $79.99, and an Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99. Pre-orders open at midnight local time on June 25, just ahead of the game's November 19 release date.
The confirmation puts an end to weeks of speculation and leaked retailer listings, some of which had pointed to prices as high as $230 for a rumored collector's edition. The actual numbers landed closer to what most analysts expected, given Grand Theft Auto 6 has already been described as one of the most expensive video games ever made to produce.
What You Get for the Extra $20
Rockstar says the Ultimate Edition "amplifies" the core experience with what the company describes as an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and additional content woven throughout protagonists Jason and Lucia's story. Confirmed extras include the '95 Grotti Cheetah, a mid-1990s sports car styled as an homage to the game's Shore Drive setting, along with additional weapons and cosmetic items tied to the pair's arc through the story.
On top of the edition-specific content, anyone who pre-orders or purchases either version before November 20 will receive the Vintage Vice City Pack — described by Rockstar as a set of items that nod back to the neon-soaked aesthetic of the original Vice City. Digital pre-orders also come with a free month of GTA+, Rockstar's ongoing subscription service.
No Disc, But Full Pre-Load Access
One detail that caught players' attention: physical copies of Grand Theft Auto 6 won't actually include a game disc. Instead, the box will contain a download code, with both physical and digital versions supporting pre-loading starting November 12 — a full week before the game unlocks on November 19. It's a shift that mirrors trends already common across the current console generation, where digital installs have increasingly replaced physical media even in boxed retail copies.
Set in Leonida, Starring Jason and Lucia
Grand Theft Auto 6 returns players to a fictionalized version of Florida, with the game's official description setting the story in "Vice City, USA," as part of the broader state of Leonida. The narrative follows Jason and Lucia, a pair the game's synopsis describes as having "always known the deck is stacked against them," before an attempted score goes wrong and pulls them into a conspiracy that stretches across the state.
The wait for this sequel has been a long one. Grand Theft Auto 5 launched 13 years before its successor, an unusually long gap for the franchise. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the delay directly, framing it as a function of the scale of the project rather than any single setback. He has also previously suggested he expects the game's release-day impact to be significant enough that some players will skip work entirely to play it.
What This Means for the Industry
Grand Theft Auto 6's pricing lands at the upper end of what major publishers have charged for flagship console titles, a tier that's grown more common in 2026 as development costs for big-budget, open-world games continue to climb. A $79.99 base price, now standard for several AAA console releases, paired with a $99.99 deluxe tier, suggests publishers are betting that demand for a release this anticipated will absorb pricing that would have seemed aggressive just a few years ago.
For Rockstar and Take-Two, the stakes are enormous. Grand Theft Auto 5 remains one of the best-selling entertainment products of all time across any medium, and expectations for its successor have only grown during the 13-year wait. Whether the Ultimate Edition's added content proves to be worth the extra $20 will likely be debated heavily among fans between now and launch — but for now, at least, the guessing game over pricing is finally over.
