Ghostface Is Back: Scream 7 Hits Theaters This Weekend
Hello, Sidney. It's been a while. After years of behind-the-scenes drama, cast shake-ups, and fan speculation, Scream 7 arrives in theaters on February 27, 2026, bringing Sidney Prescott back to the center of the franchise for the first time in over a decade. FilmoGaz And this time, the stakes are more personal than ever — because Ghostface isn't just coming for Sidney. He's coming for her daughter.
The Plot: A New Target, A Familiar Terror
When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all. PhoneArena
Sidney has built a new life for herself, having married police officer Mark Evans and taken his surname, running a coffeehouse, and looking over her teenage daughter Tatum, named after Sidney's late Woodsboro friend Tatum Riley. Samsung But as any Scream fan knows, no amount of small-town peace can keep Ghostface away for long.
The Cast: Legacy Meets New Blood
This is where Scream 7 really shines. Scream 7 marks the return of Campbell's Sidney Prescott after the actress refused to star in Scream VI due to a payment dispute. She leads the cast alongside other legacy Scream alum including Cox, Arquette, and Matthew Lillard, who played one of the original killers, Stu Macher, in the first Scream. Imaging Resource
Isabel May plays Tatum Evans, Sidney's daughter and new Ghostface target. You've previously seen her in Paramount+'s 1883 and CBS's Young Sheldon. FilmoGaz Joel McHale joins as Sidney's husband, with Anna Camp, Mckenna Grace, Jimmy Tatro, and Mark Consuelos rounding out the new additions. Longtime Ghostface voice actor Roger L. Jackson will also continue to give the character his iconic voice in this installment. Imaging Resource
Behind the Camera: Kevin Williamson Takes the Director's Chair
Perhaps the biggest story of Scream 7 is who's directing it. Kevin Williamson, writer and producer of previous Scream films, directs from a script by Guy Busick, based on a story by Busick and James Vanderbilt. Samsung Williamson wrote the original 1996 Scream and is responsible for much of the franchise's DNA — the meta-humor, the self-awareness, the rules. Having him step behind the camera for the first time in the series feels like a full-circle moment, and early audience reactions suggest it shows.
The Drama Behind the Scenes
It wouldn't be Scream 7 without some real-world drama. On November 21, 2023, Melissa Barrera, who starred as Sam Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, was fired from the seventh film due to her comments about the Gaza war. The following day, Jenna Ortega would not reprise the role of Tara Carpenter. Samsung Ortega later clarified that she departed due to the changes in the creative team and cast. The exits of two of the franchise's newest leads forced a complete creative pivot — one that ultimately led to Neve Campbell's return and a back-to-basics approach that many fans are already applauding.
IMAX & 4DX: A First for the Franchise
In a first for the horror movie franchise, Scream 7 will be released in both IMAX and 4DX, making the scares larger than life. GSMArena If you're going to experience Ghostface on the big screen, this is the year to go all out. AMC is also running an Opening Night Event on Thursday, February 26, where attendees can take home a collectible print. PhoneArena
What Critics Are Saying
Reviews are mixed but the audience buzz is strong. On Rotten Tomatoes, 43% of critics' reviews are positive, with Metacritic assigning the film a score of 38 out of 100, indicating generally unfavorable reviews. Samsung However, audience reactions from early screenings tell a different story — many fans feel Scream 7 is the closest the franchise has come to recapturing the spirit of the original since Wes Craven's era. The film is projected for a $40 million domestic opening weekend debut. Samsung
