Zuckerberg Unveils Three New Meta Glasses Lines at Connect, Including Camera-Free Audio

Mark Zuckerberg put three pairs of glasses on the Connect stage and tried to make one of them look harmless.Meta Connect 2026 in Menlo Park was an AI-wearables show. Muse, the agent Meta shipped this month that climbed the App Store, is the software story. Hardware is how you talk to it without unlocking a phone. The company announced Meta VR Glasses, Ray-Ban Meta Audio, and Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, plus a teaser for Muse Charm, a small handheld that is supposed to reach shops by the holidays. The privacy fight walked in with them. Camera Ray-Bans earned the nickname “pervert glasses” after wearers filmed strangers. Audio-only frames are Meta’s product answer: keep the assistant, lose the lens.Meta VR Glasses: A Headset That Pretends to Be EyewearThe halo device is Meta VR Glasses, about 100 grams on the face — Meta’s line is “a deck of cards” — with compute in a tethered puck. Price is $1,299.99. On sale spring 2027.Displays are 5K-class micro-OLED, 37 pixels per degree, pancake optics. Meta calls it the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device. The pitch mix is cinema, 100-plus immersive live U.S. sports events a year with ESPN and TNT Sports, games, and a private multi-screen workspace that can turn a table into a keyboard. Hand gestures and Muse, with a rendered avatar, are the UI. WhatsApp-to-Zoom calling is listed. It sits between Quest 3 money and Vision Pro money. It is still a blacked-out slab on your nose with a brick in your pocket. Hands-on notes call it easier to wear than a strapped headset, not invisible. Shipping is two seasons away. Software will decide if “glasses” is honest or branding.Ray-Ban Meta Audio: No Camera, $349Ray-Ban Meta Audio is the political product. Forty-three grams. Open-ear audio. Calls, music, podcasts, live translation, talk to Muse. No camera. Twelve hours on the frames, 48 with the case. Clubmaster and Burbank styles, 23 color and lens mixes, prescriptions. Pre-order path points to October 13 from $349. EssilorLuxottica remains the partner.Zuckerberg said once you live with good glasses audio you want it always, and the team realized that could be its own category. Critics will say a mic still records a room. Defenders will say a missing camera is the only concession that mattered. Both can be true. The SKU exists because the camera SKU became a culture problem.Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3: The Camera Line ContinuesGen 3 is the bestseller, slimmer, with a dedicated action button and the longest battery in that family — about nine hours in some briefings. New Aviator and Zena cat-eye frames. Starts around $449; special editions higher. Camera and 3K video remain. Muse is “coming” to the glasses for workouts, meals, bookings, and “help buy products you see.”Oakley and Meta-branded frames keep multiplying. Meta says more than 100 AI-glasses styles by year end. Display Ray-Bans get navigation for cycling and transit, a talking-head “hologram” for calls, and wider country availability.Muse CharmZuckerberg showed a small talk-to-Muse object — Charm — for people not wearing glasses. Fastest way to speak to the agent and show it the room, he said. Specs were thin. Holiday timing is the claim. The Strategy in One SentencePut the agent on every face shape, including the shape that cannot film you.Billions in model spend only pay if people use the models. Glasses are the distribution. Audio glasses are damage control. VR glasses are the leftover metaverse bet in a lighter costume. Charm is a hedge if faces reject cameras forever.Whether 100 styles make surveillance normal or make Audio the only pair polite company will allow is the 2027 question. Connect just put both on the same keynote.
