Samsung Unveils Galaxy S26 Series: The AI-Powered Smartphone Just Got a Major Upgrade

Samsung held nothing back at Galaxy Unpacked 2026. On February 25 in San Francisco, the company officially unveiled the Galaxy S26 series — its third generation of Galaxy AI smartphones — and the details are now fully confirmed. Here's everything you need to know straight from the event. The Lineup at a Glance The Galaxy S26 series consists of three models: the standard Galaxy S26, the Galaxy S26+, and the flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra. The base S26 features a larger and brighter 6.3-inch display, the S26+ packs a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen and a 4,900mAh battery Tom's Guide, and the Ultra serves as the powerhouse of the family. All three models share a unified design language and are available in Cobalt Violet, White, Black, and Sky Blue, with Samsung.com-exclusive Pink Gold and Silver Shadow options. Samsung Pricing & Release Date The Galaxy S26 now starts at $899 and the S26 Plus at $1,099 — a $100 price increase over the previous generation. The Galaxy S26 is no longer available with 128GB of storage. PhoneArena The S26 Ultra starts at $1,299 for the 256GB model — unchanged from the S25 Ultra's launch price — with the 512GB at $1,419 and the 1TB at $1,659. FilmoGaz Pre-orders are live now, with devices scheduled to begin shipping on March 11, 2026. Samsung is offering trade-in discounts of up to $900, and Amazon is already running pre-order promotions with discounts ranging from 10% to 24%. Imaging Resource Performance: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Every phone in the S26 series is powered by the newest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which packs serious power. CGMagazine The chip comes with an improved NPU, GPU, and CPU for smoother graphics, and ray tracing is supported across all S26 devices. Samsung RAM and storage configurations remain mostly the same — the base S26 and S26+ come in 256GB or 512GB with 12GB of RAM, while the S26 Ultra comes in 256GB/12GB, 512GB/12GB, or 1TB/16GB. CGMagazine Display & Design The Galaxy S26 Ultra features a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2,600 nits peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass Armor protection. FilmoGaz The Galaxy S26 Ultra is 0.3mm thinner than its predecessor and weighs 214 grams. Samsung The series features slightly more curved edges and a redesigned camera bump, mirroring the design language of the Z Fold 7. CGMagazine Camera: Bigger, Brighter, Smarter The camera system on the S26 Ultra is where things get really interesting. The Ultra ships with a 200MP f/1.4 wide lens, a 50MP f/1.9 ultrawide, a 50MP f/2.9 periscope telephoto, and a 10MP telephoto lens. Samsung says the new sensor sizes allow for 37% brighter photos with the telephoto lens and 47% brighter images with the 200MP wide lens. CGMagazine That's a meaningful real-world improvement, especially for low-light and zoom shots. World-First Privacy Display One of the most talked-about features of the S26 Ultra is its built-in Privacy Display. Debuting on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Privacy Display limits side-angle viewing without the need for a separate screen protector — the display remains clear from the front while restricting visibility from the sides, above, and below, helping shield on-screen content from nearby onlookers. Samsung Users can toggle this feature on only under certain circumstances, like when text notifications pop up or when opening a specific app like banking. CGMagazine Galaxy AI: Smarter, More Proactive AI remains the centerpiece of the entire S26 experience. The Galaxy S26 series further expands its AI ecosystem with Bixby, Gemini, and Perplexity. Users can use natural language commands to adjust settings — for example, saying "My eyes feel tired" prompts Bixby to suggest activating Eye Comfort Shield, eliminating the need to navigate complex menus. Samsung Now Brief has been updated to pull reservation and meeting information directly from notifications, reducing the steps required to stay on top of your day. Now Nudge is embedded directly in the keyboard — so if someone suggests a meeting in WhatsApp or Messenger, the S26 can prompt you to create a calendar event automatically. CGMagazine One UI 8.5 on Android 16 debuts Circle to Search 2.0, Live Translate Pro, and Sketch to Image. Ultra-exclusive AI Pro tools include video b-roll generation. FilmoGaz Battery Life The Galaxy S26 Ultra packs a 5,000mAh battery GSMArena, keeping it consistent with the previous generation. The S26+ comes in at 4,900mAh. Samsung has optimized the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5's efficiency to squeeze more screen-on time out of each charge cycle, though exact battery life figures will need real-world testing to confirm. Should You Buy One? If you're upgrading from a Galaxy S23 or older, the S26 series is a compelling leap in performance, camera quality, and AI capability. If you recently got a Galaxy S25, the differences may not be significant enough to justify the upgrade cost. PhoneArena For new Android buyers or iPhone switchers, the Galaxy S26 Ultra in particular makes an exceptionally strong case — Privacy Display, world-class cameras, and the most polished Galaxy AI experience to date make it one of the most complete smartphones on the market heading into 2026. Pre-orders are open now. Devices ship March 11. Don't sleep on the trade-in deals — they won't last long.
